Environmental priorities

ed toovey architects care passionately about conserving Earth’s resources through
careful passive design measures, best practice engineering and energy efficiencies.
Not only will this result in a long life, low maintenance building, but it can also save our
clients money in fuel and water bills.

Listen, consult, create

ed toovey architects value long associations with clients that we have
worked with, getting to know their organisations from the inside out,
and valuing the personal experiences that people bring to design.
User participation and input is fundamental to the process of achieving
a great architecture.

Understanding the brief

First steps are so important in a new project - there is a need to acknowledge
the real brief behind the requirements with our clients.
High level thinking, sketching and dialogue will bring the most added value and
future-proofing, maximizing the long term benefits of a project.

Sharing thoughts early

Sketching is a fast & personal way to communicate
new ideas thoroughly and effectively, speeding up
key decision making. ed toovey architects believe in
responding quickly to client needs when it happens,
not weeks later!

Generating ideas

ed toovey architects love to solve design problems whatever the scale
of projects, bringing a long experience of forward thinking and site
development master-planning with proven architectural calibre.

Research and development

Ed Toovey has a long involvement in education
going back to 1990, and worked with Schoolworks

Nottingham and Newcastle for local schools.
The practice is active in research and study into
future trends in school space and design.

Modernity and Tradition

Conservation Areas, listed buildings, historic settings.
Buildings in sensitive contexts require a special sensitivity
to design and a knowledge of planning processes and how to
engage with the local community. Ed Toovey has gained that
extensive experience through working with some of the oldest
schools in the country.

Master-planning

Many Independent Schools manage complex, diverse and historic
estates that need to respond to changing educational, cultural,
sporting or pastoral demands, with funding at best intermittent.
Master planning, by consultation, analysis, appraisal and outline
design, can provide a strategic framework for development.
ed toovey architects has extensive experience of master-planning
for significant school estates.
This major refurbishment for the sports
pavilion at The American School in London
will modernize facilities and enhance the
range of uses of the existing building.
The proposals for The CityPoint Club in
the City of London include expansion of
the main Gym and pool areas, and
refurbishment of changing facilities
and finishes throughout. There are also
ideas for the entrance at SlimJims Health
Club in the Broadgate office development.
This entrance and reception proposal for
a leading ethical investment company in
London explores how better arrival and
connections can be enhanced to improve
organisation.
These projects illustrate the way in which
existing buildings can be transformed by careful
extensions in sensitive planning contexts.
This refurbishment of an existing building for
Sussex House School in Chelsea provides new
changing facilities and a re-modelled Gymnasium.
